About Emily
Emily Johnson, LCSW
Trauma Therapist in Athens, GA
Welcome, I am so glad you’re here! Have you ever felt “less than”, uncomfortable with your appearance, struggled with an eating disorder, or had chronic low self-esteem/poor body-image? Then this may be the space for you!
Our world offers a constant influx of beauty, brain, and body standards that can sabotage our self-worth and create a less-than-ideal self image. Together, we work to release others’ expectations (thank you 90s diet culture!) and explore what makes you you! There is significant hurt in the rejection of self for the preservation of emotional safety. I work with individuals who have trauma and/or are experiencing active emotional distress from low self-esteem, chronic health conditions, eating disorders, body dysmorphic disorder, bullying, loss of sense of self (grief) or body image concerns. Additionally, I work with those who have experienced traumatic hospitalizations or residential treatment.
If any of this resonates with you, I would love to see if we are a good fit to work together. You can contact me directly at emily@thebrannencenter.com.

My Philosophy
My philosophy endorses that every person deserves to feel “at home” in their brain and body regardless of societal standards. I offer a supportive and direct approach focusing on balancing present feelings and experiences while working toward resolution of core wounds.
Our work is influenced by Internal Family Systems approach, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and traditional CBT tailored to meet your individual care needs. Sessions include: meeting you where you are at emotionally, a healthy dose of humor, direct communication, and a supportive environment to process what needs processing while progressing forward.
