About Lauren

Lauren Huggins, APC Pending (GA)
Trauma Therapist in Alpharetta, GA

I am a passionate, trauma-informed mental health counselor dedicated to helping individuals better understand themselves, work through painful experiences, and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University and am continuing my professional development and licensure journey as an Associate Professional Counselor in Georgia.

My clinical experience includes working with adults from diverse cultural backgrounds who have experienced trauma, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, substance use, grief, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, and concerns related to self-worth and identity. I have supported clients navigating complex circumstances, including legal and family stressors, recovery, loss, and rebuilding their lives after traumatic experiences.

As a former NCAA Division I athlete and experienced volleyball coach, I also have a special interest in working with athletes and former athletes. I understand the pressures of performance, injury, identity changes, perfectionism, burnout, and transitioning away from competitive sport. I enjoy helping clients strengthen confidence, improve performance-related coping skills, and develop an identity and sense of purpose beyond athletics.

My Philosophy

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized. I believe clients are the experts on their own lives, and I strive to create a space where they feel safe, respected, and empowered. I primarily work from a trauma-informed and person-centered perspective while incorporating cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness, emotional regulation skills, and Trauma Incident Reduction techniques. I consider the whole person rather than focusing only on a diagnosis or presenting concern.

Originally from England, I bring an appreciation for different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences into my work. My goal is to meet each client where they are while helping them move toward greater stability, self-awareness, resilience, and meaningful change.
