Specialized OCD Treatment Using ERP and EMDR in Athens, GA

Beyond Traditional Coping Tools
for OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often misunderstood as simply being about neatness, symmetry, or hand-washing. In reality, OCD is an exhausting condition characterized by intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges (obsessions) and the mental or behavioral rituals (compulsions) people feel driven to perform in an attempt to reduce distress, gain certainty, or prevent a feared outcome.

While traditional talk therapy can help you understand these patterns, insight alone is often not enough to break the OCD cycle. At our Athens office, we take an individualized, evidence-based approach to treatment. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold standard therapy for OCD and is at the center of our work. We frequently integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well. When appropriate, treatment also includes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) or parts work to address past trauma, life experiences that contribute to distress, or feelings that make OCD more difficult to manage. Our goal is to help you reduce the influence of OCD, respond to intrusive thoughts with greater flexibility, and reclaim the parts of your life that fear has taken away.

You do not have to let OCD dictate your life. If you would like to discuss treatment for OCD or intrusive thoughts, reach out for a consultation to see whether we're a good fit.
