Comprehensive DBT Therapy in Alpharetta, GA

Learning Concrete Skills for Acceptance and Emotional Tolerance

When you are living with intense, fast-moving emotions, life can feel like a constant game of catch-up. You might find yourself riding an emotional rollercoaster where a minor setback completely derails your day, or a sudden conflict leaves you feeling totally disconnected from the people you love. If you’ve ever felt like your reactions are "too much" for others—or even for yourself—it is incredibly draining to keep pretending everything is fine.

Here at our Century Drive office, we know that traditional talk therapy doesn’t always cut it when you are in the middle of an emotional storm. You don't just need a space to vent; you need an actual manual for your nervous system. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a highly collaborative, practical approach designed for individuals who want to stop just surviving their feelings and start actively managing them. We don't judge your coping mechanisms; we look at what they are costing you and help you build better ones.

What Makes DBT Different? Navigating the Balance

DBT is based on a simple concept: two seemingly opposite truths can coexist at the exact same time. In our sessions, that looks like holding space for these two facts: You are doing the absolute best you can right now, AND you need to learn new behaviors to change your life.

We move step-by-step through the four foundational skill modules of DBT, tailoring them to your needs.

Mindfulness (Finding Your Wise Mind)

Moving out of "Emotional Mind" (where feelings drive impulsive choices) or "Reasonable Mind" (where you ignore your feelings completely). We practice anchoring you in Wise Mind—that intuitive, calm place where logic and emotion integrate so you can make choices you feel proud of.

Distress Tolerance (Surviving the Storm)

Life will throw crises at you, but you don't have to make them worse. We teach you concrete physical and mental resets—like the TIPP skills (Temperature, Intense exercise, Paced breathing, Paired muscle relaxation)—to rapidly lower your physiological distress when you feel an emotional spiral coming on.

Emotion Regulation (Taming the Waves)

Emotions aren't your enemy, but they shouldn't be running the show. You will learn to identify the exact prompts that trigger your emotional spikes, reduce your baseline vulnerability to those triggers, and actively practice Opposite Action to change an unwanted emotion by changing your physical behavior.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

(Protecting Your Peace)

Saying "no" without drowning in guilt, and asking for what you need without starting a screaming match. We break down active relational tools—like the DEAR MAN framework—to help you clearly state your needs, express your feelings, and negotiate healthy boundaries while keeping your self-respect intact.

We offer fully in-person sessions at our quiet Alpharetta office as well as flexible, secure telehealth options for individuals living anywhere in the state of Georgia. You don't have to keep navigating these waves completely on your own.  Schedule a free consult to learn more.
